Shift Manager
Main Purpose of role:
To manage the day-to-day shift production operation, including Extruder, Grinding, Blending, and Packing. This role is about keeping the factory running safely, efficiently and effectively at all times. The job holder plays a key role in ensuring the site is audit ready for both BRC and customer audits at all times. The Shift Manager will ensure maximum production output of right first time, quality products with minimum wastage within a safe working environment that meets the company and customer housekeeping, hygiene and quality standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- To ensure that the safe working practices of Burgess Pet Care are adhered to at all times, which include upholding the health and safety policy, procedures and regulations in the working environment. This includes completing risk assessments and associated documents for the whole production area
- To demonstrate the Burgess core values of Commitment to Excellence/People, Teamwork, Initiative and a Passion for Customers.
- To maintain 24/7 cover in the factory ensuring that our health and safety, quality and customer expectations are met at all times.
- Responsible for adhering to and delivering the daily/weekly production plan for the factory.
- To follow and adhere to all GMP procedures and standards and to ensure the team follows these always.
- To ensure the lines are kept running, particularly at Shift Change over and break times to optimise factory efficiencies.
- At times of downtime, whether scheduled or unscheduled that the personnel are optimally employed. In the event of scheduled downtime that appropriate thought and planning have been applied to ensure the effective use of the time for training or other relevant tasks.
- To lead your team in performance improvements and continuous improvement projects that increase the overall efficiency and safety of the production lines.
- To coordinate and contribute to the department’s performance goals by working flexibly and efficiently within a team-based structure.
- To manage the development of new and existing team members by assisting with their development training needs and objectives.
- To contribute to the team’s goal of maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance by ensuring compliance with existing quality standards, systems, procedures and checks.
- To deliver the training plan within your area of responsibility and ensure your team members follow the standard operating procedures.
- To achieve all production targets of your team and department ensuring the OEE targets are met.
- To lead the morning line review meetings and drive improvement by using line boards to identify actions and opportunities and to follow these through to conclusion, when operational circumstances require leading the 9:00AM daily meeting.
- To ensure the lines are kept clean, tidy and hazard free always, enabling optimum productivity rates and minimum wastage in line with GMP.
- To conduct return to work interviews with your team members and actively manage absence by working closely with your line team and the HR department.
- To develop and support changeover skills and multi-skilling within the Extruder and Pack Hall areas.
- To lead CI action teams as required by identifying the need from analysing downtime data to ensure the team focus on the top issues within operation.
This position includes working alternative shifts between 6AM-2PM, 2PM-10PM and 10PM to 6AM.
