At Burgess Pet Care, we’re always working on new ways to add a little zing to our small pets’ diets – and we’ve come up with a blinder! We’re proud to launch our NEW Build Your Own Bale! It’s a nutrition-packed, fibre-filled bundle that you can customise with fabulous floral forage to treat your pets to even more variety in their diet.
“Small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas need to eat plenty of nutritious feeding hay to keep them healthy. Mixing in tempting forage ingredients encourages natural foraging behaviours, which keeps small furries busy and happy as they snuffle and seek out the fragrant goodies,” says Burgess in-house vet Dr Suzanne Moyes. “These natural extras not only look and smell wonderful, but they also add a tasty twist to your pet's daily hay, so that every mouthful as exciting as it is healthy.”
WHY HAY AND FLORAL FORAGE MIXED TOGETHER PACKS A PUNCH
Top quality feeding hay is an excellent source of nutrients and fibre and plays a vital part in digestion for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus. Adding in some fabulous floral elements provides a whole host of additional benefits:
- MARIGOLD PETALS – These can be a healthy addition to the diet of rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas, offering various benefits, including supporting digestion and immunity. Marigold flowers are a natural source of fibre and vitamins and contain lutein, which is important for eye health.
- CORNFLOWER BUDS – These are high in natural fibre and add a satisfying, chewy texture, as well as helping to support normal digestion and possessing anti-inflammatory properties.
- ROSE BUDS AND ROSE PETALS – As well as smelling wonderful, roses are a good source of vitamin C, minerals including calcium (essential for strong bones), iron, and magnesium (useful for muscle and nerve function) and antioxidants, which help to support the immune system.

AT BURGESS PET CARE, WE TAKE OUR HAY VERY SERIOUSLY INDEED...
- We have a long tradition of supporting British farmers. As part of our ongoing commitment, we actively source our ingredients as close to our Yorkshire mill as possible.
- The grass used in our nutritious hay range and Excel nuggets for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus is sourced from the UK to meet our stringent specifications, and we know exactly which field each batch comes from and the date it was harvested. It’s also exclusive to Burgess. No other pet food manufacturer has access to our grass!
- The grass is harvested when it’s at its lushest to ensure the optimum level of nutrients and fibre, helping to ensure that it delivers all the goodness pet animals require.
- Our grass is grown on an estate that works in partnership with the local wildlife trust and ensures that the grassland is managed to reduce environmental impact and positively encourage biodiversity.
